April Showers Won’t Put a Damper on April Fun

Pack your umbrellas and get ready for adventure! West Michigan is raining opportunities for your family to get out and enjoy nature, or stay inside and play. April kicks off with spring break fun, quickly moves on to plants & animals galore, before finishing with Easter.

From admiring nature as it blossoms, to getting up close to animals of all shapes and sizes; with races of all lengths and locales and inspiring stage presentations and baseball games and princesses, there’s fun for all ages and interests.

We’ve organized a daily list to make it easy for you to follow along – all you have to do is dig in! Be sure to check our daily calendar as new events are always being added.

Monday, April 1 – Kick off spring break by making a craft at Michael’s. Use our guide to help you plan your week.

April 2 – Nothing says, “spring,” like baby animals! Stop by the Critter Barn’s spring fling to meet the spring babies and see a bottle feeding.

April 3 – Dive into fun at the Seymour Branch of GRPL for a mermaid-themed storytime.

April 4 – Spend some time on the farm at Dairy Discovery’s spring break bash.

April 5 – Close out your spring break week at the ballet. The Grand Rapids Ballet School Junior Company presents The Monster Who Ate My Peas.

April 6 – It’s opening day for the 26th season of the Whitecaps!

Sunday, April 7 – Expand your cultural horizons at the GR Latin American Film Festival.

April 8Road trip down to East Lansing and check out the free Science Festival through April 20.

April 9 – Enjoy a story and visit with an animal for storytime at John Ball Zoo.

April 10 – The butterflies are in full bloom at Frederik Meijer Gardens.  Stop downtown in the evening for the monthly Project Night Lights to support the children in DeVos Hospital.

April 11 – Experience the story of Christ through an allegorical and poetic narrative of a Singer (His song could not be silenced) as Master Arts Theatre presents The Singer.

April 12 – Take your little Hawaiian princess down to Wyoming YMCA for a luau with Moana.

April 13 – Woodland Mall is the place to be to meet unicorns and mermaids! Ride a unicorn, meet a mermaid, visit with the Easter Bunny and more at the Enchanted Spring Party.

Sunday, April 14 – Calling all awesome women runners! It’s the Gazzelle Girls 7th annual half marathon, 10k or 5k. Tie up your shoes or come cheer on your favorite girl.

April 15 – Learn about recycling and watch the machines sorting materials at the Kent County Recycling and Education Center for Imagine Craft Mondays.

April 16 – Head to the library for one of many storytime sessions today.

April 17 – Have your littles bounce off some energy at toddler time at Crazy Bounce in Holland.

April 18 – Join New Branches Academy for a fun family night celebrating Earth Week.

April 19 – Kick off Easter weekend by going to see Peter Rabbit for free morning movies at Goodrich Quality Theaters in Holland, Grand Haven or Lowell.

April 20 – Easter Egg Hunts abound today! We can help you find one near you.

Sunday, April 21 – Happy Easter! Start your day with a delicious brunch.

April 22 – Celebrate Earth Day at Millennium Park for a scavenger hunt, games, crafts, take home goodies… and some learning about invasive plants.

April 23 – Take your littles out into nature during Nature Buds at Blandford Nature Center.

April 24 – Climb on board as the Circle presents The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System. Recommended for grades K – 5.

April 25 – Multi-platinum selling and Grammy winning group Casting Crowns stops at Van Andel Arena tonight for their “Only Jesus” tour.

April 26 – The West Michigan Symphony performs Disney classics tonight in Muskegon.

April 27 – Take a break, relax and daydream at B – The Underwater Bubble Show, inspired by classics like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and The Little Mermaid.

Sunday, April 28 – Revisit a childhood classic at the Civic Theatre for opening weekend of James and the Giant Peach.

April 29 – Little ones can practice their jumping skills during toddler time at Altitude Trampoline Park.
