December is Brimming with Merriment

The year may be coming to a close, but there are still plenty of fun things to check out. While the twelve days of Christmas seems festive (though, who really wants that many pet birds?), we’ve upped the ante with our thirty-one days of December FUN.

With Santa sightings, festive productions, things to do out in the snow or warm and snug indoors, there is a whole host of happenings to keep you going this December. Use this curated list to help plan your month, but also be sure to check out our daily calendar for even more great events and activities going on in West Michigan.

Celebrate the Season of December Fun With Kids

Sunday, December 1 – Get up close to some reindeer and visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus this afternoon at Flowerland in Kentwood.

December 2 – Take in the spectacular, magical holiday parade through downtown Zeeland and stop by the Howard Miller Library to see the expansive model train display.

December 3 – Get some shopping done at the Holland Kerstmarkt, before the Parade of Lights rolls through the downtown.

December 4 – The fun is non-stop at Craig’s Cruisers with trampolines, go-karts, laser tag, a pizza buffet dinner, and more during their Wristband Wednesday special.

December 5 – Uptown Grand Rapids will be the spot to be for the annual Shop Hop, with complimentary shuttle service around the East Hills, Easttown, Wealthy St, and East Fulton neighborhoods. 

December 6 – Visit the famous Breton Village train display accompanied with story time, crafts and free admission to the Gerald R. Ford Museum this morning.

December 7 – Parades march through Rockford, Hastings, and Ada along with many other Santa Sightings.  

Sunday, December 8 – Race through the floating obstacle course, slip down a 150-foot slide, and get your splash on at Family Open Swim at the Holland Aquatic Center this afternoon.

December 9 – Cuddle with kittens and get a feline fix at Happy Cat Cafe’s Family Night.

December 10 – Everyone is invited to jump and put their ninja skills to the test during Rebounderz Sensory Friendly Night.

December 11 Discover a whole new world as Disney’s Aladdin takes the stage at the Wharton Center in Lansing.

December 12 – High school students are invited to some snacks and stress relief during Exam Cram at the Kelloggsville KDL this afternoon.

December 13 – Hike (or snowshoe) along a luminary lined path at the Wittenbach-Wege Nature Center.

December 14 – Build a gingerbread house at a nearby KDL location as Gaines, Alto, Tyrone, and Plainfield branches all host Gingerbread Lane events today. Pre-registration is required.

Sunday, December 15 – Let The Grinch guide you to the friendly animals at Deer Tracks Junction during a special Christmas tour.

December 16 – Reading, building, painting, and many other sensory experiences can be expected when you drop your little off for Exploratory Play at Lions & Rabbits.

December 17 – Everyone’s a winner during a special holiday Family Bingo at Howard Miller Library. Pre-registration is recommended.

December 18 – Let the aerial dancers of Cirque de Noel enchant and enthral you. 

December 19 – Spend an evening at Grand Rapids Art Museum. Gather for a special storytime featuring the books of David Weisner at 6:30 as well or participate in Light the Night, where special shadow tours will be happening throughout the museum. Older kids will like staying for the Flashlight Tour as all the lights in the GRAM will be switched off! (All events are free, except for the Flashlight Tour at 9:00 PM.)

December 20 – Drop the kids off for an evening of VR and Legos as Amped Reality and Bricks4Kidz partner together to keep the kids entertained while you get in some holiday shopping (or a date night)!

December 21 – Scour the area for minty treats as the Byron Center Candy Cane Hunt returns.

Sunday, December 22 – Learn how to decorate your baked goods with different buttercream frosting techniques at Joann Fabrics & Crafts store.

December 23 – Take a Snowflake Break at the Grand Rapids Public Museum with a massive Lego display of historic Grand Rapids, the Toys! exhibit and Bodies Revealed. 

December 24 – Celebrate Christmas traditions from around the world at Frederik Meijer Gardens today.

December 25 – Fill a thermos of cocoa, and pack your favorite cookies for a drive through the Fifth-Third Lite Show, or create your own light tour with our guide of holiday light displays.

December 26 – Bundle up for skating outside at Rosa Parks Circle or indoors at Patterson Ice Center.

December 27 – It’s Two Dollar Dog Night at the Griffins home game against the Admirals at Van Andel Arena.

December 28 – Follow some fluffy guides through the woods and enjoy the animals at Fellinlove Farm.

Sunday, December 29 – Laser lights, disco balls, and upbeat music invade BAM! for Rock & Glow Night.

December 30 – Drop your school aged children off at Horizon Kids’s Open Gym where they can climb, jump, tumble and more.

December 31 – Hello 2020! Use this handy guide to find the perfect celebration for your crew to ring in the New Year.
