Where, Oh Where, Can You Donate Your Kid’s Long Hair?

This post was originally published in 2014 and has been updated for 2018.

The Blessing and Curse of Long Hair

My two daughters took after their momma and by age four had long beautiful, flowing…tangled, crazy, battle-inducing…locks. Argh!!

Cutting the hair your child has been growing for so very long can be intimidating and a little scary for everyone involved.

For us, however, those feelings only came once. After the first haircut, we quickly realized just how easy short hair is to manage, and how crazy cute little girls are when they sport it!

Donating Hair Makes a Big Haircut Even More Worth It

When you are able to donate that hair, it gets even easier!

The joy you feel from giving a gift to someone in need takes away the intimidation of cutting those long locks. Now, instead of fearing time in the chair, my girls anxiously await the big cut, asking daily if their hair is long enough yet.

But how do you donate your hair…and what are the requirements?

  1. My daughter was blessed with thick, fast growing hair and we donated it this past spring. Super proud of her for making this decision, given she is only three. If you go to Great Clips they will cut it and send it in for you and give the donatee a free hair cut. The hair is sent to Locks of Love.
