Embrace Michigan Autumn with these Free Fall Activities!
October in West Michigan is hard to beat. The colorful leaves are beautiful, the pumpkins are plentiful, and the events and activities are chock full of fun!
This month we’ve found some awesome opportunities for you to enjoy all that West Michigan has to offer in the fall.

Affordable or Free October Fun Around Grand Rapids – 2018
1 – The cool month of October is perfect for enjoying West Michigan’s apple orchards and cider mills – and most are only open through the end of the month. Schwallier’s Country Basket and Heidi’s Farmstand and Bakery both have great play areas for kids that can be accessed for free.
2 – Just because summer is over doesn’t mean the festivals are finished! October is the perfect time for so many great festivals like Pumpkinfest 2018 on October 5 and 6, Holland Fall Fest on October 12 and 13, and others that are highlighted in our Fall Festival and Fair Guide.
3 – Celebrate Polish heritage during the Pulaski Days Parade on October 6 at 11:00 AM. You’ll see clowns, hear some awesome bands, dance the polka and more during this family-friendly event.
4 – Walk the Pumpkin Path at Lamar Park on October 13 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Over 70 businesses will form a festive path of FREE candy, prizes and fun!
5 – Do you just LOVE escape room entertainment? If you’re 6-8th grade, register for Escape the Library – Halloween Edition at Gary Byker Memorial Library on October 19 from 6:30-7:30 PM to unlock secret codes and solve mysteries, Halloween-style!
6 – Get “glowing” down to Saugatuck for Glow in the Park on October 26 from 6:00-9:00 PM. There will be food, music, kids’ activities, glow face painting and more. Admission to the event is free and kids’ activity tickets are a bargain at $1 each or 25 for $20.
7 – Come out and meet the faces of over 60 local businesses at South Kent Community Expo on October 27 from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM. Get tasty food from food trucks, meet the police and fire departments, have fun with kids’ activities and even get your flu shots at this FREE event!
8 – Don’t miss the amazing and unique Halloween Ice Show where you will see local young skaters, dressed up in their Halloween best, showing off their figure skating skills. This is a totally FREE event happening on October 28 at 3:45 PM. And, the first 100 kids through the door will receive a free treat bag!
9 – Find a trunk or treat (or two!) in our Trunk or Treat 2018 guide. There is so much FREE fun to be had, all over town!
12 – Flicks Family Film Fest is back, this time with shows like Peter Rabbit, Sherlock Gnomes and Hotel Transylvania 3. Kids get in free, and adults are only $5!
