September is a beautiful time of year in West Michigan! From Apples to ArtPrize, this month is full of ideas for simple fun with kids around town.

Free or Affordable September Fun in Grand Rapids – 2018
1 – Many of West Michigan’s apple orchards and cider mills have already opened for the season. Schwallier’s Country Basket and Heidi’s Farmstand both have great play areas for kids that can be accessed for free.
2 – See what West Michigan has in store for Labor Day weekend – festivals, parades and more!
3 – Don’t miss Outdoor Youth Day at Historic Charlton Park on September 8 (10:00 AM-4:00 PM). The whole family will enjoy tons of outdoor activities like archery, fishing, hiking, kayaking, biking and target shooting.
4 – Head just east of Grand Rapids to Lowell to the beautiful Fallasburg Park from September 15 – 16 for the Fallasburg Arts Festival. Check out the handcrafted art, listen to live music, or visit the children’s craft area.
5 – Combine safety and fun at Safety Night in Hudsonville on September 18 (4:00-7:00 PM). The kids will see all kinds of trucks and safety equipment, shoot water out of a fire truck hose, see a K-9 demonstration, witness Aero Med flying in and more! Free hot dog dinner for the first 1,000 people.
6 – ArtPrize 10 is the fall event you do not want to miss! Once again Grand Rapids will be full of exciting, amazing and beautiful – and often BIG – art! ArtPrize runs September 19 – October 7. Take a walking tour with our handy Grand Rapids Family Walking Tour.
7 – Apples, anyone? Head to Sparta for the Michigan Apple Fest on September 22. The festival will feature fun kids games and tons of food and drinks made with Michigan apples.
8 – Be sure to visit the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum for the annual FREE Kids’ ArtFest on September 30 (12:00-5:00 PM). Kids will be able to paint, sculpt, design jewelry and play with other mediums. Grand Rapids Children’s Museum ArtPrize exhibit artists will also be in attendance and there will be live performances to entertain and thrill!
