Clever Halloween Costume Ideas for Trick-or-Treating

This section contains affiliate links

Halloween in Michigan is special. It’s tricky to find costumes that are fun, yet warm enough to withstand whatever October 31 throws at us.

Here are several costume ideas we think will help you and your kids trick-or-treat, stay warm, and have the best Halloween. Just be sure to shop early – Halloween will be here before you know it!

Inflatable Dinosaur Costume for Adults

You won’t win any land speed awards wearing this, but you will stay warm and get a lot of laughs.

Best for teens or parents who don’t need to assist little kids with all of the things.

Ghostbuster Family Costume

Put mom or dad in a Staypuft Marshmallow costume and dress the kids up as Ghostbusters for an epic costume that will be warm and very entertaining.

Kids Oompa Loompa Costume

Kill the neighbors with cuteness when your child trick-or-treats as a little Oompa Loompa.

Bonus – long sleeve and pants are a great way to stay warm. Size up so you can layer with long underwear if necessary.

And, here’s the link for the wig.

Halloween Ponchos for Mom FTW

Finally, a costume that is cute, that lets you wear leggings, and takes all of a second to put on. Ponchos are winners and they come in lots of styles.

Pair it with a funky headband or other Halloween accessories and you’re ready to hand out candy or walk the kids from house to house.

  1. Can we add Hastings to this list? Each year a fun community event on our historic Green Street and plenty of businesses and churches with either haunted houses or trunk or treats to visit.

        Hi, Sally,

The City of Wyoming consistently tells us that they do not designate a day or times. Neighborhoods can do it whenever they want.

I recommend asking your neighbors what they’re planning. I’m trying to determine this myself!

If we hear anything official, we’ll update this post accordingly.
