Experience The Sound of Music in a Whole New Way
52 years ago, The Sound of Music film was released for the first time to enthusiastic audiences. Since then, it has become one of the most beloved American movies of all time and continues to be the most successful movie musical in history. In fact, if you’re like me, you grew up watching it (probably on VHS) and know all the songs by heart!
If anything can rival the experience of watching this timeless movie, it’s seeing it on the stage.
Broadway Grand Rapids is bringing The Sound of Music LIVE to Grand Rapids’ own DeVos Performance Hall, February 21-26, . Directed by three-time Tony Award® winner Jack O’Brien, and featuring its Tony®, Grammy® and Academy Award® winning Best Score, The Sound of Music is a national sensation that is sure to thrill and delight audience members of all ages.
“Experiencing live theater offers something you just can’t get watching movies or television,” says Meghan Distel, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Broadway Grand Rapids.
“It is magical to see actors performing and singing right in front of you, drawing you into the emotion and heart of the story.”
About The Sound of Music
The story is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, a young aspiring nun living in late 1930s Austria. She is sent to the villa of a widower and retired naval officer, Captain von Trapp, to be the governess for his seven children. After bringing love and music into the lives of the family, together they find a way to survive the loss of their homeland during World War II.
Despite its serious backdrop, the story is filled with songs and laughter, and even the youngest audience members will find it difficult to resist its charm.
“With a large cast that includes 7 children playing the Von Trapp children, kids have someone to identify with on stage, which will add to their enjoyment of the production,” says Ms. Distel.
Now Your Kids Will be Able to Sing Your Favorites With You
Just imagine watching songs like, “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” and “Do-Re-Me” unfold right in front of you, in the very same room as Maria and the Von Trapps. It will surely be a night your whole family will remember and treasure!
Truly inspirational works of art speak across generations. The Sound of Music is one such work that has lost none of its beauty and relevance.
As Ms. Distel puts it, “The musical is a breath of fresh air and is as important today for those who believe in standing up for their beliefs and being true to themselves as it was when it first hit the stage.”
