I am so Glad we Found Kingma Pediatric Dentistry
By age two my daughter needed extensive oral treatment. (Her baby teeth enamel hadn’t fully developed.) Dr. Kingma was our second opinion and ultimately our best decision.
The amazing staff, Dr. Brett Kingma’s friendly manner, and their excellent care has made us clients for life!
My daughter’s nerves were still high the morning of her first visit, even though we had prepared her for this the best we could.
But the moment we walked into the waiting room, she started to relax. She scanned the safari themed room, the hands on toys and the fish tank and in an instant, she was off playing like, “Mom who?”
Our friendly hygienist was impressed that my 3 year old acted more like a 5 year old. To which I patted myself on the back. (But really, they get credit, too, for easing her anxiety and putting her into the right headspace from the moment we walked in.)
Kingma’s Office Knows Exactly how to Talk to Kids
They gave her tools to handle this new experience, including a cute story about their office with friendly pictures about all the places she will go at the office and who will help her.
They gained her trust with friendly staff, inviting atmosphere, and fun-loving energy. They maintained her trust by speaking directly to her and explaining every step along the way.
Even on the day of oral surgery, she was brave. She remembered “Dr. Brett’s” friendly manner and immediately trusted him.
We love Dr. Kingma’s office. My daughter is always relaxed here and even had an emergency fix without tears this past month. She is proud of her bravery and it shows in every smile.
HOW to ease child’s dental visit anxiety?
I really like these tips from Dr. Kingma. They helped alleviate my daughter’s anxiety before her first visit:
- H – Healthy Habits from the beginning – Create a dental care routine at home from the beginning. Dr. Kingma recommends brushing with fluoridated toothpaste as soon as teeth erupt! All you need is a ‘smear’ of toothpaste – the size of a grain of rice.
- O – One Year Old – According to Dr. Kingma’s office and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry you should bring your child in for their First Visit to get acclimated by age one.
- W – Watch A Social Story with your child before their appointment with Dr. Kingma.
A New Dentist Means Extended Office Hours
As more and more parents bring their children to Dr. Kingma’s growing office, Brett realized the need for another dentist. And as luck would have it, his good friend Dr. Grady Randall could join them!
This means more office hours for patients:
Monday – Thursday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Friday 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Meet the new Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Grady Randall
Dr. Randall is a former midwesterner that has recently settled his growing, outdoorsy family in West Michigan. He and Dr. Kingma met when they completed a 2 year specialty pediatric dental residency together. Dr. Kingma knows firsthand what a great addition Dr. Randall will make to his team.
In addition to extensive background and maintaining his impressive dental memberships and certifications, he is committed to volunteering. This compassion coupled with the care he provides to his patients makes him a great fit for this office.
