This is a guest post by local mom Mary Ward.
Forget about the snow and cold when you come to Toddler Tuesday at the Salvation Army Kroc Center. It may be blustery outside, but the pool area is a balmy 85 degrees! Children five and under (and their parents) are welcome to come on Tuesdays between 9am and noon to play in the gym and swim. (Toddler Tuesday is every Tuesday throughout the school year but you will want to double check if it is happening during school breaks.)
On Toddler Tuesdays, the gymnasium is open with balance bikes, parachutes, plasma cars and other assorted toys. Occasionally in the gym there will be special events or a bounce house.
Personally, we like to swim first then go to the gym to dry off. The zero-depth entry pool area is open for the younger children, though they usually do not turn on the sprinklers as it can get loud for little ears.
You are welcome to bring your own toys and coast guard approved life vest for your children, but the Kroc Center also has life vests available.
This swim time is a nice way for children to enjoy splashing around in a safe environment throughout the winter. I appreciate that the lifeguards are attentive and vigilant!
When we go into the lazy river area in the pool, I’m always sure to keep within an arm’s reach of my daughter. (An adult must remain within 4 feet of their child(ren) in the pool.) And when we get chilly, it’s a treat to warm up in the hot tub (children are allowed to put their feet in the hot tub).
Finally, you’ll be happy to know that the locker rooms are nice and clean and there are four family locker rooms with showers. (Don’t forget to bring your own towels!)
This is a great place for families as the cost is only $5.50 per child (as of December 2016) and an adult gets in free with every child admission during toddler Tuesday.
