Calling all you American Girls – Your Favorite Dolls are Coming to Life!

I was in 3rd grade when I first found the American Girl books in my school library. Even though I was “too old” for them, my little sister and I still eagerly awaited new volumes. I pretended that I wasn’t jealous when she got a Samantha doll for her birthday.

The American Girls line of dolls has grown much farther than those first historical books and dolls that I loved. There are so many more dolls now along with movies, additional books, stores and more. The newest addition is American Girl Live.

My favorite American Girl memory happened just this last October! My daughter (seven years old) had saved money for a year to buy a doll at the Chicago store. While saving her own money she also saved enough to buy two dolls and donate them to a local charity. My daughter cried at her birthday dinner in the cafe at the Chicago store. She was so overwhelmed with excitement and joy. She had made her dream come true through hardwork, generosity, and kindness. I will never forget how proud she was and how proud of her I am!

My favorite American Girl memory is myself eagerly waiting the magazine to come in the mail so I could pour over the pages. We could never afford one growing up so I was so excited when my daughter became old enough to get one. We started out with bitty babies and now we have a collection of the dolls. She still eagerly awaits the magazines and picks out everything that she wants. We love AG! Liked and shared.

I had asked for an American Girl doll for many years in a row. I finally received one when I was 12 and although I was a bit too old to play with dolls she was in great condition and I gifted that first doll to my daughter Ava. She now has quite the collection and loves the dolls and movies.

My favorite memory is that when our daughter, now grown up, was in 2nd grade and in a new school, we invited all the girls in 2nd grade to our house and we had an American Girl party. Her doll was Molly, so we played games from the 1930s and had food inspired by MOLLY’s books.
My favorite show at Miller Auditorium was Annie. We took our kids to see it and it was a really wonderful show. We love musical theater, and it was a treat to go see it as a family. Wish we could take our grandkids to a musical sometime.
