Kids are Building Sweet Friendships with their Great Grandparent Generation
Some of the best people in the world are grandparents. They are nurturing like a parent, and also think that you can basically do no wrong. They are wise, forgiving, and delight in everything their grandchildren do.
NorthPointe Christian Schools is tapping in to the amazing resources of the older generations through their Intergenerational Preschool program. This innovative program is giving preschoolers a unique opportunity to grow with the grandparents and great-grandparents of their generation.
My daughter has a special bond with her Great Grandma. Since Great Grandma lives on the other side of the state, it takes effort to maintain their friendship with cards in the mail and video chats.
I love that NorthPointe Christian is teaching children how special our elders are. Even if a child’s great grandparent is far away, the preschoolers at NorthPointe still can get in that grandma and grandpa time at school!
Bridge the Gap, Get benefits ASAP
Northpointe Christian Intergenerational Preschool brings their students to visit assisted living residents of Vista Springs Riverside Gardens. And while it seems like they’re just playing and having fun with grownups, there’s a lot more happening.
Without even trying, the residents of Vista Springs are helping these preschoolers improve their communicational, emotional and literacy skills. The children are learning to really see others and notice more about the world around them.
Northpointe Christian students learn the significance of caring for and accepting all within our community. They gain an understanding of empathy and social responsibility from an early age. They create, share, and listen to stories with their elderly friends.
The Northpointe preschoolers are a ray of sunlight for many of the senior citizens.
Northpointe Christian Intergenerational Preschool’s daily classroom schedule includes gathering time, reading, learning center, stories, outdoor play, and participation in the planned intergenerational activities. The activities may include working alongside each other in the learning center, reading time, and even gardening.
