We Were Off to Great Places – Today was the Day!
“Is today the day Momma?!”
For three months my son asked me this every day we set off for adventure. It had started back in June, after we had driven past the Civic Theatre downtown. My son erupted with excitement in the back seat as he saw the poster for Seussical the Musical.
“MOM, DID YOU SEE THAT!?”
And I was so thrilled that I got to reply “YES, I did! And guess what? We get to go see that together buddy!”
All of that anticipation and waiting for “THE DAY” finally came. It seemed everyone else in their seats felt the same way as we’d hear over and over in the distance, “Are you excited!?”
The countdown started and the crowd all yelled in unison “5! 4! 3! 2! 1!”
The curtains parted and we were transported to the Jungle of Nool.
Here in the Jungle of Nool: Fun for the Whole Family
This musical takes you on a heart-filled journey of discovery and the importance of imagination based on Dr. Seuss’ tales of Horton Hears a Who! The Cat in the Hat, and Miss Gertrude McFuzz.
Every detail kept our attention, from colorful costumes to intricate set design and the fantastic clear sound. At one point I looked down the aisle to see my kids faces intently watching JoJo dance and sing his heart out.
The magic of imagination was priceless!
My husband and I chuckled at the perfectly placed adult humor. The silly and fun character of the Cat in the Hat kept the kids laughing.
Seussical the Musical proved to be fun for the whole family! This musical was a beautiful reminder to young and old each time Horton sang out that “a person’s a person no matter how small.”
Oh the Things You Can Think…After the Show is Over
One of my favorite things about the Civic Center is that as soon as the show begins there is a ‘no phones allowed rule’ that everyone sticks to. It means the only way you get to experience the magic is by sitting in your seats, allowing for no distractions. It means no pictures or video. The only way you’ll be able to remember this unforgettable night is by going to it and thinking about it after it’s over.
Which goes perfectly along with Seussical the Musical’s major theme, “Oh the things you can think!”
Experience a night to remember as you take this opportunity to bond with your kids! Grab your tickets for the below showtimes now at The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre’s website or call for more information at (616) 222-6650 x 6671.
