2022 Summer Reading Programs Around GR & The Prizes You Can Earn

 2022 Summer Reading Programs

Where to Find Kids’ Summer Reading Programs Around Grand Rapids

Summer reading programs are one of my kids’ favorite summer traditions.

On the last day of school we walk to our local GRPL branch to sign up for the summer reading program. (And check out a pile of books.)

Then they come home and hop in their hammocks and get to work.

Even if your kids aren’t book obsessed like mine, you can still participate in several summer reading programs around Grand Rapids. The prizes might just be the motivator to keep them engaged until school resumes.

Here are our three favorite summer reading programs that many other families return to every year, too. I mean, if your kids are already reading for one program, they might as well get double or triple the rewards, right?

Kent District Library (KDL) Summer Reading Program

The largest summer reading program in the state, KDL is launching kids into a STEAM-powered season of Summer Wonder again this year, this year with a focus on nature and the outdoors.

Finishers of the 30 Day Challenge get a free book (adults get a 60″ umbrella) and chances to win $250 Meijer gift cards.

Complete an additional 15 days for an extra entry for the gift card.

Registrants are entered to win a Golden Ticket to John Ball Zoo: a special day at the zoo that includes animal encounters, a scavenger hunt, and storytime.

Read for 30 days to receive your finisher prize – tickets to John Ball Zoo or a gift card to Vault of Midnight. Available while supplies last.

Schuler Books Summer Reading Club

June 7 – August 13

Kids can read their way toward $5 vouchers at Schuler’s, with a maximum of 3 vouchers possible.

I like this program because if a book is more than 200 pages, it counts as two books.
