Grand Rapids is Alive With the Sound of Music!
Just try to keep your foot from tapping, I dare you!
Opening night at Broadway GR’s Sound of Music was everything I hoped for and more.
The music, the cast, the stage, the performance… everything was top-notch and spot on. The live theater version varies a bit from the more familiar movie reprise, but that did not disappoint. All of your favorite songs and characters are there. I thought the stage version gave Captain VonTrapp a little more personality than the film did, even. I told my husband I’d love to be serenaded with “Something Good” any day. He smiled.
DeVos Hall was filled on opening night, too.
I loved seeing so many kids in the audience. Listening in on conversations made it apparent that these kids were seeing the show for their very first time. Some were grandkids were with their grandparents. It was lovely to watch a cherished memory being shared between generations.
I marveled at the cast- especially the children. How they can manage to put on such a high-quality show and bring it to venues around the country is beyond me. Gretel was adorable, of course. Leisel is still 16-going-on-17 and the rest of the crew played their parts perfectly.
The Sound of Music is in town til Sunday- and you won’t want to miss it!
