Grand Rapid’s FIRST Chick-fil-A Now Open in Gaines Township
Why Do People Go Nuts Over Chick-fil-A?
Regardless of how you may feel about fast food…pretty much everyone loves Chick-fil-A. Their original chicken sandwich is much better than other fast food chicken sandwiches, it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Contrary to the suspicious looking “meat” in some fast food sandwiches, Chick-fil-A serves up delicious chicken, which is always hand-breaded and made from whole breast meat void of fillers or hormones. Chick-fil-A has even made a commitment to switch completely to antibiotic-free meat by the end of 2019 and they have already switched to using cage-free eggs.
Biting into their tasty original chicken sandwich is like getting a little taste of heaven. Chick-fil-A likes to say, “We Didn’t Invent the Chicken, Just the Chicken Sandwich.®“ Their chicken sandwich recipe is top secret and is hidden in a safe in their home office in Atlanta, GA. A quick Google search will bring forth several copycat recipes, many of which suggest their juicy chicken is soaked in a pickle juice brine. Thankfully, now that Chick-fil-A has arrived in West Michigan, you don’t need to recreate their delicious food for yourself!
Things to Know, Before You Go
1- Expect Long Lines
Many West Michiganders have been waiting for years to get a Chick-fil-A in this area of the country. One of my friends said he’s been waiting twenty five years to get a Chick-fil-A in Michigan. Another friend said, “this changes things,” when I told her that Grand Rapids now has a Chick-fil-A. Needless to say, people are ECSTATIC to have a Chick-fil-A here. The extremely long lines and jam-packed parking lot prove just how eager Grand Rapids diners are to get their hands on Chick-fil-A’s famous chicken sandwiches, crisp waffle fries, sweet tea and lemonade.
2- Download the Chick-fil-A App
Before you head to Chick-fil-A, you MUST download their app. The app will allow you to order your food in advance and avoid waiting in the long drive-thru or in-store lines. If you are taking your kids to Chick-fil-A this will make the experience way better! You don’t need to order ahead for carry-out food only; you can also order your food ahead and still dine in the restaurant.
While Chick-fil-A isn’t going to promise to be completely safe if you have a severe allergy, they do follow practices to avoid allergen cross-contamination. Their app even has an allergens filter, to help you find allergen-friendly food options. If you have a child with gluten and dairy intolerance, for example, they can still enjoy a kid’s meal with grilled chicken nuggets and waffle fries or fruit.
4- Enjoy Their Amazing Customer Service
Chick-fil-A is well-known for their outstanding customer service. They treat their customers like they are honored guests and respond with “my pleasure” rather than “you’re welcome.” They even greet customers with umbrellas outside when it’s raining!
When I dined there recently, I was on my own with my two young boys. We were about halfway through our meal when a staff member checked-in at our table. I was relieved because my oldest son and I were both ready for a drink refill, but I wasn’t about to go stand in the long line with my littles. The staff member was extremely kind and helpful. She cleared some things from our table and quickly brought refills back to us. Don’t hesitate to utilize their five-star customer service!
5- Plan Extra Time for the Play Area
The Chick-fil-A play area is small (yet efficiently designed), but there was plenty of fun to keep my little guys happily entertained for 20-30 minutes. My youngest enjoyed the little toddler area, while my older son loved going down the slide over and again. Thankfully, there is some seating for parents, so you can sit back, drink your tasty lemonade and watch your kids have some fun!
