Q&A with Karin's Horse Connection & Legacy Stables
What makes your camp stand out from the rest?
At Karin’s Horse Connection and Legacy Stables, camp is not just a riding program, it’s a full immersion into horse care, responsibility, confidence-building, and connection with both animals and peers.
Each camper is paired with their own horse for the entire week, creating a bond that helps build empathy, confidence, and trust.
Rather than rushing through large-group activities, we keep our station groups small (up to five campers), allowing instructors to tailor learning to each small group’s interest, experience level, and learning style.
This means quieter kids are seen, beginners aren’t overwhelmed, and experienced riders can truly be challenged.
Our camp curriculum goes beyond just riding. Campers learn all things horsemanship through grooming, tacking, chore routines, stall care, horse breeds, basic psychology, and different disciplines.
These fun activities naturally teach life skills like responsibility, patience, teamwork, and problem-solving, lessons that can extend far beyond the barn.
Safety, kindness, and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do. Our experienced staff is deeply passionate about both horses and children, creating a welcoming, supportive environment where kids of all ages and abilities can thrive.
Finally, we intentionally create some time for unstructured outdoor fun, friendships, creativity, and being kids.
By the end of the week, campers leave with new skills, deeper confidence, meaningful connection, and memories that truly last a lifetime.

Anything else families should know before they register?
No prior horse experience is needed - beginners and experienced riders are welcome!
Safety is our top priority with helmet-required riding (helmets provided by us), well-trained horses, and constant supervision by experienced staff.
Camp runs rain or shine, so campers should bring closed-toed shoes, weather-appropriate clothes, sunscreen, and water.
Space is limited due to small group sizes, and camps often fill quickly.

What’s a typical day like from start to finish?
A typical day at camp is thoughtfully structured to balance learning, responsibility, movement, and fun.
We start the morning with either icebreakers to help campers connect or by jumping right into light chores so campers can begin caring for their horses right away.
From there, campers enjoy a large-group game and unstructured downtime to simply be kids, make friends, and burn off some energy.
Next, campers groom and tack their riding horses, learning hands-on horsemanship skills and building confidence in handling their own horse. Once everyone is ready, campers rotate through three small-group stations throughout the day.
These include a riding lesson tailored to each camper’s skill level, a hands-on barn lesson focused on horse care and management, and a classroom-style lesson covering topics like horse behavior, breeds, or different equestrian disciplines.
Small group sizes allow instructors to give personalized attention and adjust activities based on camper interests and experience.
At the end of the day, campers wrap up by caring for their horses after lessons (untacking, grooming, and cleaning up) reinforcing responsibility, routine, and respect for their equine partners before heading home tired, happy, and proud of what they accomplished.
What’s one thing parents always thank you for at pickup?
Parents most often thank us for how confident and proud their kids feel by the end of the day.
They’re amazed at how quickly campers grow in independence, responsibility, and comfort around the horses.
Many parents tell us their child can’t stop talking about their horse, their friends, and everything they learned.
