Saturday, May 30, 2020 - 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Kids ages 3-13 years old are invited to a completely free fishing derby on May 30, 2020, from 9am to 1pm, at the 2.5 Acre pond at the Whistlestop Park in Byron Center Township. The first 100 kids will receive a free Rod and Reel combo to keep. We will have more poles on hand for kids to use and later return. Experienced fishermen and women from the Grand Rapids Steelheaders organization and the West Michigan Walleye Club, will be present to instruct and assist junior anglers bait their hooks, and celebrate their catches. We expect 150 to 300 kids in attendance, and have EVERYTHING prepared that they may need to fish. Kids are encouraged to bring their own poles. If they do not have a pole, we have plenty for them to borrow (265 poles are prepared).

Kids can gain fishing skills and knowledge by visiting the three learning stations!
Bait Station: Kids can learn about what fish like to eat and practice baiting their own hooks with gummy worms!
All About Fish Station: Kids can Meet a conservation officer and learn about different types of Michigan Fish
Casting Station: Kids Get receive expert casting instruction while playing the backyard bass casting game!
