Having access to books early in life helps to inspire a love of reading and fosters literacy. Little Free Libraries welcome neighbors to take a book or leave a book (no library card required!), and we are excited to bring not one, but THREE of these new tiny libraries to our community parks.

On July 30, we invite you to help us build the new tiny library that will call Joe Taylor Park home.

Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is hosting this interactive build day in partnership with the Grand Rapids Public Library, Friends of the Library, the City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department, and our presenting sponsor PNC.

Come hang out with us! We will have:
– Birdhouses to build as a family (1 per family, up to 20 families)
– Animal masks for kiddos
– Snack and story time
– A free book for youth to take home (up to 30)

Bringing these little libraries to our parks will encourage reading, draw people back into their neighborhood parks, and remind our community of the importance of trees (like those planted by Friends of GR Parks!).

After all, we couldn’t build and fill these Little Free Libraries without the lumber and paper that trees provide!
