THIS SPRING, CHANGE A LIFE. Join thousands of people across the globe in our mission to bring life-changing clean water and fullness of life to children in communities around the world.  Let’s come together to be world changers!  Move your feet, so that kids on the other side of the world don’t have to move theirs so far.  Your involvement in this day brings kids from just surviving, to thriving!

Walk, run, or push a stroller with us at the World Vision Global 6K for Water on May 4, 2019. The registration fee you pay will provide lasting clean water to a child, like the child on your race bib!  And you have the option of sponsoring that child to make your gift go even farther.

Why walk or run for clean water? Clean water frees children from deadly diseases, liberates women and children from a life spent gathering dirty water, and opens the door to education, a promising future, and a full life. We believe the global water and sanitation crisis can be solved within our lifetimes. By registering for the Global 6K for Water, you are helping build a world where everyone has access to clean water that lasts!

Why 6 kilometers? Aren’t most races 5K or 10K? The distance is significant. 6 kilometers is the average distance people – usually women and girls – walk to get water for their families and homes in the developing world. Often the walk is dangerous, children miss school, and the water is dirty. At the Global 6K for Water, every step you take is one they won’t have to!

How far is 6 kilometers? 6 kilometers is approximately 3.7 miles. Imagine a small child making this walk every day with up to 40 pounds of water (the equivalent of a large microwave) on their back.

I’m not a runner. Can I still participate? Yes! The distance doesn’t require significant physical fitness, the time commitment is minimal, and the registration fee isn’t too costly. It’s an easy – and meaningful – way to spend time together as a family or with friends and neighbors.

Where is the course? Our walk/run will begin at the Kentwood Campus parking lot, then head east to the sidewalk along the road that goes past the Crossings Apartments, Peppinos, and Celebration Cinema, to Kalamazoo Avenue. From there we’ll head South on the Kalamazoo sidewalk to the M-6 Trail, heading west on the trail to Eastern Avenue. That’s the half-way point (we’ll have water/snacks there) where we will turn around and head back to KCC along the same route.

Is this a timed event? The Global 6K is a fun walk/run for the whole family. We will not be keeping official time. So, don’t worry about your time – just have a good time!

Are strollers and dogs OK? Leashed kids and dogs in strollers are fine. Or was that leashed dogs and kids in strollers?

If you have any other questions, please contact Karen Miedema at [email protected]

Join us for a morning of impact, fun, fellowship, life-changing movement.  We’ll start the race at 9am.  Runners, walkers, strollers, welcome.  Everyone can do this!  At the finish line, there will be medals, snacks, music, and a post race party.  You don’t want to miss this!
