Q&A with Lionardo Art Camps
What makes your camp stand out from the rest?
Lionardo Art Studio offers one of the most creative and diverse summer camp programs in West Michigan.
All summer long, we offer a variety of art camps designed to inspire, educate, and entertain campers from preschoolers to teens.
If your child loves to imagine, build, create, and explore the world around them, Lionardo Art Camps are the place for them. With over 30 unique camps across 10 weeks, families can choose from half-day and full-day options tailored to each age group.
Each camp blends playful creativity with thoughtful learning, giving kids the freedom to try new ideas, build confidence, and develop creative problem-solving skills – all in a warm, supportive environment.
A Place Where Creativity Grows
What sets Lionardo Art Camps apart is our belief that every child is creative.
Campers are encouraged to make choices, follow their interests, and create artwork that reflects who they are. We teach essential art techniques while giving kids the freedom to explore and learn through the art-making process.
With access to a wide variety of materials and guidance from experienced art educators, kids learn that there is no single “right way” to create.
By the end of the week, kids have learned new skills, gained confidence, and created artwork they’re genuinely proud to share.
Camps Designed for Every Age
Lionardo Art Camps are thoughtfully designed by age group, with separate camps for preschoolers, elementary-aged kids, and teens. This ensures that projects, pacing, themes, and materials are developmentally appropriate and engaging for each stage. A preschool camp looks very different from a teen camp, and that’s exactly the point.
We offer ten weeks of summer camps and over 30 unique camp options for children ages 3–16, with half-day and full-day options available.
Families can choose the schedule that works best for them, whether that’s one week or several throughout the summer.

Anything else families should know before they register?
A Supportive Camp Environment
Our camps are designed with small group sizes, limited to 15 campers and two teachers present at all times. This structure allows us to offer personalized guidance, build meaningful connections, and create a calm, encouraging space where creativity can thrive.
We welcome children of all backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels, and design our programs to be responsive to the needs of each camper.
Built on Experience & Care
Lionardo Art Studio has been serving Grand Rapids families for five years through weekly classes, seasonal workshops, and summer camps. Our programs are led by experienced teaching artists who understand how to nurture creativity while meeting kids where they are.
Above all, we care deeply about creating a place where children feel confident, supported, and proud of what they create, whether it’s their very first art project or their hundredth.
More Than Finished Projects
Our goal isn’t just beautiful artwork: it’s confidence, curiosity, and creative growth. Campers are encouraged to make choices, experiment, and create one-of-a-kind art pieces.
We want kids to leave camp excited about what they learned and inspired to keep creating long after the summer ends.

What’s a typical day like from start to finish?
Each camp day balances hands-on artmaking, movement, and creative breaks to keep kids energized and engaged. Campers work both indoors and outdoors, moving between focused projects and playful exploration.
Throughout the week, campers explore a wide variety of art forms, working with different surfaces, textures, tools, and materials. Projects range from small, detailed creations to large-scale collaborative builds, encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, and imagination at every level.
Creativity Beyond “Just Art”
While art is at the heart of everything we do, many of our camps go beyond traditional art-making. Families often choose Lionardo Art Camps because we offer creative experiences that blend art with building, storytelling, science, movement, and imaginative play.
Some of our most popular and unique camps include:
• Woodshop
• Light It Up (glow, light, and illuminated art)
• Engineering: Art in Motion
• Practical Magic Lab
• Enchanted Forest
• Treehouse Camp
• Sugar Plum (art + treat-inspired creativity)
• Graffiti & Street Art
• Animation & Storytelling
• Wild About Animals (with live animals)
And that’s just a small sample. We have over 20 additional themed camps offered throughout the summer.
Exploring Materials (Including Clay!)
Campers explore a wide range of creative materials and tools, combining traditional art-making with hands-on exploration, building, and experimentation. Materials are introduced thoughtfully and age-appropriately, with an emphasis on creativity, curiosity, and process.
New this year, clay and pottery are incorporated across age groups, with opportunities for sculpting and hand-building.
Campers may work with:
• Clay & Pottery
• Painting & Drawing Media
• Mixed Media & Collage
• Sculpture & Building Materials
• STEAM-Based Materials
• Technology & Digital Tools
• Sensory & Decorative Materials
• Textiles & Wearable Art
