Q&A with Camp O'Malley

What makes your camp stand out from the rest?

Camp O’Malley is more than a summer destination—it’s a place where kids feel known, supported, challenged, and celebrated.

What sets us apart isn’t just the activities we offer, but the intentional way we deliver them.

Every moment is designed to build confidence, create belonging, and spark growth in a safe and joyful environment.

Our staff doesn’t just supervise—they mentor. They teach kids how to communicate, work as a team, try again after failure, and believe in themselves.

Campers aren’t another face in the crowd; they are valued individuals whose strengths are recognized and nurtured.

We offer two dynamic pathways for growth beyond typical camp structure.

Leader-In-Training for ages 12–14 helps teens learn responsibility, leadership, and how to become positive role models.

Our Leader-In Training program offers pathways for growth beyond typical camp structure.

Few camps offer such clear, supported leadership development.

Our programs are diverse and exciting—archery, swimming, climbing, nature exploration, team challenges, campfires, and creative arts—but the real magic is in the community.

Kids leave with new friends, unforgettable memories, and a deeper sense of who they are. They return home braver, kinder, more confident, and more connected to the world around them.

Other camps entertain. Camp O’Malley transforms.

If you want a camp where your child can grow, laugh, explore, lead, and be welcomed like family—choose Camp O’Malley.

It’s not just the best place to spend a summer. It’s a place that shapes who they’ll become.

What’s a fun or quirky fact about your camp?

Camp O’Malley isn’t just fun—it’s delightfully weird in the best way.

We celebrate silly, loud, messy joy.

We’re the kind of camp where counselors randomly burst into song, where campers earn bragging rights for catching a leaf out of the air, and where the s’mores-to-face ratio is proudly high.

Our traditions are iconic. You might start the day with a goofy chant at breakfast, end it with a campfire story so dramatic it deserves an Oscar, and fill everything in between with games no one knew the rules to until we started playing (and somehow everyone wins).

We have inside jokes that return every summer, a cabin rivalry or two, and theme days that bring out costumes nobody should own—but absolutely everyone does.

Campers swear our hot cocoa tastes better after dark, our morning hikes are funnier when someone tries to sing to the birds, and you haven’t lived until you’ve yelled a camp song at maximum volume with 60 other people who know all the words and none of the pitch.

We’re quirky because we let kids be quirky. We celebrate the loud dancers, the quiet artists, the kids who start water balloon wars at 8 AM, and the ones who make friendship bracelets like it’s a full-time job.

Camp O’Malley is a place where everyone gets to be weird, wonderful, and fully themselves.

Because at the end of the day, fun isn’t an activity—it’s a culture. And ours is hilariously unforgettable.

What’s the biggest “wow” moment for campers each summer?

The moment campers walk into camp, excitement begins—but the biggest WOW moment often happens the first time they look around and realize they’re part of something big.

It’s when they see cabins tucked under the trees, the pool sparkling in the sun, archery targets lined and ready, kids laughing across the field—and it hits them: “This is all for us.”

For many, the real wow hits during their first big adventure—climbing the tower, paddling a boat, or nailing a bullseye at archery. They surprise themselves with what they can do.

That rush of pride, that spark of confidence, that “I DID IT!” moment is unforgettable.

For overnight campers, another wow moment arrives after dark.

Campfires glowing. Marshmallows roasting. Voices rising in song. Flashlights dancing between cabins. The world feels bigger, yet safer and more magical than home.

It's often the moment where kids who arrived shy or unsure suddenly feel brave, included, and alive with possibility.

Camp O’Malley is full of activities, but this moment—the shift from nervous to fearless, from outsider to part of a family—is the most powerful.

Kids come in unsure of their abilities and leave amazed by what they can do, the friends they made, and the memories they’ll never forget.

The biggest WOW is the moment camp becomes home.

What’s one thing parents always thank you for at pickup?

Every day after camp, parents tell us the same thing—“Thank you for taking such good care of my child. They feel safe here. They feel like they belong.”

More than the games, the swimming, or the wide-open adventures, families are most grateful that Camp O’Malley feels like home.

We treat every child as if they were our own—supported, celebrated, looked after, and genuinely known.

We notice who tries something brave for the first time, who makes a new friend, who needs encouragement, who needs space, who needs a high-five, and who needs a reminder that they are strong, capable, and valued.

When parents arrive, they see it written all over their child’s face—sun-kissed, tired, messy-haired, glowing with joy and confidence.

Parents thank us for helping their kids unplug, be outside, and just be kids.

They thank us for giving them leaders who care, for creating a place where laughter is constant and kindness is natural.

They thank us for the way we remember names, favorite snacks, fears they overcame, and stories from the day that make them feel proud.

Most of all, they thank us because camp doesn’t feel like drop-off and pick-up—it feels like handing their child to family for the day. A place where they’re loved, protected, challenged, encouraged, and welcomed exactly as they are.

At Camp O’Malley, kids don’t just attend. They belong.
