The Scoop on the Trails at Wahlfield Park
Wahlfield Park is tucked away off of Alpine and 8 Mile Road and offers 283 acres (yes, you read the right!) of natural land to explore. The trails vary from wooded creek views to endless, open field views.
A large playground is at the trail head along with several picnic tables. We hit the trails first and then rewarded enthusiastic hikers with a snack and playtime!
There are several wooden bridges crossing the creek that makes its way through the park, but the majority of the trails are dirt or gravel–so it’s best to leave the strollers behind.
Need to get the kids excited about a hike? A fun visual scavenger hunt is available; keep little hikers interested as you check everything off your list. What a neat idea!
My preschooler loved leading the way around the winding trails at Wahlfield Park.
It’s pretty easy to find your way back to where you started–so go ahead and let your kids take the wheel on your hike! It was fun to see him make decisions about which way would entail the best adventures (we tended to the direction of the creek and bridges).
The hiking trails are hilly, but nothing too steep. This was a good hike for little kid legs to keep busy without getting tired out.
On Foot or By Bike?
Wahlfield Park is a must-visit for avid bikers as many of the winding trails are designed for just that.
In fact, the trail system in place at Wahlfield Park was designed by The Western Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance.
Add the semi-hilly terrain to the mix between field and woods–and you’ve got what mountain bikers dream about!
