ArtPrize 2024 is Winding Down, and Winners Have Been Announced!
The winners of Art Prize 2024 were announced at the Closing Ceremony held at Kendall College of Art & Design on Friday, September 27, 2024 and we’ve plotted them on an interactive map to help you get out and see the winning art before it is taken down.
If you’re new to it, ArtPrize is Grand Rapids’ premier art competition happening throughout our city September 13 – 28, 2024.
This year, the big prize went to Dynamic Sunset, which is showing at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
What’s the Big Deal? $400,000 Prize Money.
As the name implies, at the conclusion of the event, ArtPrize uses funds collected from their year-round fundraising to award cash prizes to winners.
Winners are selected through public voting throughout the duration of the event plus additional juried awards.
Here’s the scoop:
The Public Vote Grand Prize winner was awarded $125,000. The Juried Grand Prize winner was awarded $50,000.
The Public Vote Awards give $10,000 to the top publicly voted entry in each of the six categories: 2D, 3D, Installation, Time-Based, New Media, and +Design. Six Juried Awards were awarded for the same categories, also for $10,000 each.
The Artist to Artist award is back for 2024. The artists awarded $10,000 to one of their peers.
Five $15,000 Visibility Awards were awarded to artists from underrepresented communities.
And the Outstanding Venue Award gave $10,000 to a venue that uses their space in ways that encourage delight and discovery for visitors.
