GRCS is a Christ-Centered, Inclusive Kindergarten Option in Grand Rapids

You’ve snuggled your newborn, celebrated the victories of potty training, and now it’s time for your kiddo to take the next big step — kindergarten. Choosing the right school can feel overwhelming.

If you’re seeking a faith-based, child-focused education, Grand Rapids Christian Schools may be the perfect fit.

With options like inquiry-based learning, outdoor education, and Spanish immersion, your kindergartner will grow, explore, and make life-long friends as they become both a global citizen and a joyful disciple of Jesus.

A Day in the Life of a GRCS Kindergartener

Grand Rapids Christian Schools knows that a solid foundation is key to becoming a lifelong learner and steward of God.

This is just what the kindergarten program is designed to deliver.

Kindergarteners learn about God’s world and how to care for it through everything they do. God’s teachings are woven into all areas of the day.

Students spend time learning through exploring, moving and investigating. Their day includes:

  • Math
  • Science
  • Social studies
  • Literacy
  • Bible
  • PE (twice weekly)
  • Music (twice weekly)
  • Art (weekly)
  • Spanish (weekly)
  • Technology (weekly)
  • Chapel (weekly)

“Kindergarteners need to move,” recognizes Jessie Renz, GRCS director of admissions. “Our days – including an extra recess just for them –  are organized to allow for that.”

Choose Five Full Days or Take it Slower With Three Full Days

The regular kindergarten program at all Grand Rapids Christian Schools is all day, five days a week.

Not ready for five days? No problem! Parents can opt for a progressive kindergarten program.

Rather than attending all day five days a week right away, these kids attend school all day Monday, Wednesday and Friday only. After Christmas break, they add in Tuesday and Thursday. (At Rockford Christian, students also attend half days on Tuesday and Thursday first semester and then full days second semester.)

“We always have families who choose this option for their child,” encourages Renz. “It makes the transition to full time school easier.”

But don’t worry – these kids still move on to first grade with their peers.

Excellence at GRCS

Students at GRCS are met where they are, whether it’s a little more support and encouragement or more challenging classes.

Students with disabilities can also find a home at GRCS. “We want to include your entire family,” Renz says.

Their inclusive education model means that kids with disabilities are part of the general education classroom. “We spend a lot of time working with families prior to enrollment to ensure we can meet the needs of their children,” Renz explains.

“We plan for support that will allow each child to be successful in the least restrictive environment,” she continues. “We constantly reevaluate support with the goal of fading any that are no longer needed.”

Partnering With You

Families at Grand Rapids Christian Schools do life together for 12 years. They go to class together, they play sports together, they do extracurricular activities together.

Families love building these relationships with each other and supporting each other throughout their children’s school years and beyond.
