The 2021 Aquinas College Summer Camps offer fun, inclusive, interactive and hands-on camp opportunities for middle and high school students interested in music, science and adventure! AQ Summer Camps range from seriously fun jazz and creative science explorations to building your own fantasy world!

Are you a Jazz enthusiast who would like to learn the fundamentals of Jazz, explore big bands, and arrange your own Jazz composition - all while having fun playing with other Jazz musicians?

Maybe you are a budding scientist and engineer who loves to solve challenging design problems? How about building your own (marble) roller coaster? Calling all creative minds for this fun and interactive “hands-on” camp!

How about a truly magical day camp where YOU are the hero? Join AQ’s “Dungeon Masters” who will guide you to create your own unique fantasy universe as you play a game that involves imagination, storytelling, problem solving, and action!

Located just 2 miles from downtown Grand Rapids – the park-like atmosphere and natural beauty of Aquinas’ 107 wooded acres campus play an integral part for our campers’ experience. They provide a sense of place, and a safe and nurturing environment. Under the guidance of our experienced camp directors, faculty and staff, teaching and learning, exploration and reflection take place both indoors and outdoors.

What You Can Expect at AQ Summer Jazz Camp

The very popular AQ Summer Jazz Camp has been a true treasure for West Michigan students for over 35 years. After missing out last year, the AQ Music Department is very excited to host the annual Jazz Camp again in 2021, coming back stronger than ever with this creative, expressive, and educational experience that has been enjoyed by so many young musicians!

Thanks to a generous grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the AQ Summer Jazz Camp has 12 full-tuition scholarships available for students who are completing grades 6-8 and have high financial need. Additionally, there are up to 10 talent-based scholarships for half tuition ($150) based on the recommendation of teachers.

AQ Summer Jazz Camp Session Details

Camp runs June 13 - 18 for grades 6 - 12

Highlights: Combos, big bands, faculty concerts, concerts featuring students with faculty, Master classes and electives

Choices: Jazz theory & analysis; Jazz composing & arranging; Jazz styles & rhythmic exploration; Jazz keyboard accompaniment; Jazz styles & performance techniques (interpretation and improvisation)

Instructors: All camp instructors are recognized jazz masters whose careers as teachers and players are well established and widely respected.

Cost: $275 (until April 1), $300 (until May 15) $330 (until June 1*)
Includes all materials, classes, lunches, and a camp T-Shirt
*After June 1, registrations will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

What You Can Expect at AQ Saints Science Camp

The AQ Science faculty are excited to host the STEM camp again this year, building on our tradition of offering creative, fun and interactive hands-on summer science programs.

We seek to inspire campers with awe and wonder about the beauty and complexity of nature, and we also begin to plant the seeds of "service through science." Science is all around us, and we look forward to exploring scientific challenges with you, and finding answers to design and engineering questions.

We especially look forward to welcoming our new "class" of campers to our brand-new and stunning state-of-the art science building, better known as the Albertus Magnus Hall of Science!

Thanks to the Endowed Science Fund, Aquinas College has 12 full or half-tuition scholarships available to students who are entering grades 5 through 9 and who have high financial need. For Science Camp Scholarship requests please contact the camp director at [email protected]

AQ Saints Science Camp Session Details

Camp runs June 14 - 18 for grades 5 - 9

Highlights: Design a toothpick bridge – and test its strength; use critical thinking skills to design and build a marble roller coaster; learn about nature’s designs and how animals cope with challenges; explore how science works and how to use different tools and technologies to solve problems.

Cost: $200 per student* (includes all materials and classes)
*After June 1, registrations will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

What You Can Expect at AQ Dungeons & Dragons Camp

Greetings, Travelers!

Prepare for an adventure of epic proportions! AQ's faculty and staff “Masters” will guide you to create your own unique fantasy universe, bring to life characters and monsters, and ultimately lead other adventurers through dramatic encounters of your own design.

If you like roleplay gaming, you’ll love earning your Dungeon “Masters” degree from Aquinas this summer!

The AQ Department of Communication is offering three scholarships this year. To submit an application please visit D&D Camp Scholarship Application.

AQ Dungeons & Dragons Summer Camp Session Details

Camp runs July 26 - 29 for grades 8 - 12.

Highlights: Your training includes courses like:
- Character selection
- Improv acting
- Mapmaking
- Populating your world
- Epic storytelling
- Miniature arts
- Killing with statistics
- Explosions, Plagues and Black Markets
- Digital roleplaying games
- Monster menageries and environments

Cost: $300 per camper*
(includes all materials, classes, lunches, and a camp T-Shirt)
*After July 1, registrations will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Aquinas College Summer Camp Jazz 2021

Health & Safety: Aquinas is working closely with health officials, college experts, and organizations such as Spectrum Health and the American Camp Association to ensure the camps are engaging and fun, while following all health guidelines. Specific details will be added to our website as state and local guidelines for the summer are updated. All Aquinas College summer camps will adhere to the local Kent County guidelines as well as the State of Michigan guidelines in response to COVID-19.

West Michigan summer camps are ON for 2021! Many camps fill up quickly, so sign up as soon as possible.

While I do love summer camps, the cost can add up, especially if you have multiple children.
