Just west of Traverse City is a century-old farm where you can buy fresh bouquets and even order from a wild array of iris and daylily varieties that will be delivered to your front door.

Oh, and also it’s a beautiful place for photo ops.

It’s one of the hidden gems of amazing things to do in Traverse City in summer. And really, if you want some amazing flowers for your yard, it’s a worthy pit stop on a trip to Petoskey or Manistee.

The Traverse City Iris Farm features over 1,000 German iris varieties and many hybrid daylilies, with the blooming season spanning the entire summer between the two types.

I haven’t been to the Iris Farm in a few years, but the irises I bought back then are doing so well in my yard that I have been wanting to return for more.

The Iris Farm concept is pretty cool.

You (and your family) walk around in the fields of this century-old farm while the flowers are in bloom, write down those you like, and then pay for your plants.

You do NOT take your plants home that day, however.

Choose Your Iris or Daylily Types, and Get Your Order in the Mail

The farm waits till August to dig the irises and then ship them to your house. You can also come back and pick them up if you are in the neighborhood.

I found that taking cellphone pictures was a good way to keep track of the names and colors of those I liked.
