“Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” To See My Fair Lady At Civic Theatre?

Whenever I think of Broadway classics, My Fair Lady is at the top of the list. Perhaps I am a bit biased as it was one of my first exposures to musical theatre as a kid. I remember hearing “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain” and being transported to the world of Professor Henry Higgins and his spunky student Eliza Doolittle.

For theatre and music fans alike, Civic Theatre will be performing this adaptation of the Broadway classic February 23-March 18.

The Well-Loved Story of a Phonetics Professor and a Flower Seller

Eliza Doolittle is a young flower seller with a thick Cockney accent who is the center of a wager between the arrogant Professor Higgins and his colleague Colonel Pickering.

Higgins makes a boastful bet that he can transform Eliza into a true duchess. Dedicated training begins as this unlikely pair embark on a phonetic journey to teach Eliza how to speak English properly. As her linguistic transformation takes root, she finds that she is still being treated as an experiment by Professor Higgins and his high-society friends.

Torn between a life of luxury and the one she knows, Eliza makes a tough choice. Does she stay or does she leave?

Full of laughs and heartwarming wit, My Fair Lady remains one of the most beloved stories of all time.

Mr Crowe (7th grade English) is my favorite because he connected with me such that we still communicate ~16 years later. His class was self-driven, but I was…not. He never lost faith in me and my potential, though, and even when he chastised me, he would still joke with (at) me the next day. He even had a “pet name” for me and has told stories about me to later years!
