As a stay-at-home mom of young children, I am always on the hunt for good activities to pass the time. I love when I find good classes for my kids and it’s even more fun when we can do the class together! However, it can start to affect one’s sanity when you attend the same type of class over and over again.

10 Classes You’ll Love Attending With Your Baby or Little Kids
Getting out of the house is just the first step! Finding different ways to interact with your little one can add a little spice into your life as a caregiver. Hanging out with other adults in the same boat is an added bonus. Try these different mommy and me options around Grand Rapids and let us know how they go!
1 – Baby Sign Language, STEAM Classes and More at The Village
The Village is an early childhood enrichment and parent resource center with locations in Grand Rapids and Holland, offering enrichment classes for children ages 2 months and up – from Toddler STEM classes to music classes to baby sign language classes, and everything in between for kids up to age 7.
2 – Barre and Yoga at Renew Mama Studio
Renew Mama Studio is a great place for moms of all stages to go for a little self-care. In addition to classes just for moms, Renew Mama also offers several classes for moms and children to attend together. They offer a baby-wearing friendly barre class. Moms can tone their postpartum bodies while wearing their babies.
There are also two yoga classes available. Mom & Baby Yoga is for moms and babies up to nine months or crawling. In Pre-Tot Yoga, moms help their kids, ages nine months through two years, to learn yoga. Renew Mama Studio offers single class drop in for $22. Memberships are available for discounted class rates.
3 – Stroller Strides / Stroller Barre at FIT4MOM Grand Rapids
If you are interested in attending a fitness class outdoors with your baby, check out Stroller Strides. Walk, jog and strength train with your baby and stroller. Instructors include songs and activities in the routines to keep baby engaged while moms get fit.
FIT4MOM also offers Stroller Barre which blends ballet, Pilates, barre, yoga and stroller-based exercises. FIT4MOM Grand Rapids meets in East Grand Rapids and Wyoming. FIT4MOM West Grand Rapids meets in Jenison, Hudsonville, Grandville and Walker. FIT4MOM also has a branch in Holland. Class rates vary by location. Your first class is free.
4 – Fine Arts at the Grand Rapids Kroc Center
The Grand Rapids Kroc Center offers classes in a wide range of topics and interests, including several Mommy & Me style classes in the fine arts.
Mommy & Me Dance teaches dance fundamentals and is offered by HIS Dance Academy. Music & Me teaches toddlers early music concepts through music, storytelling and imaginative play. Parent & Tot Art encourages parents and toddlers to work together to develop fine motor and social skills.
Each of these classes has six sessions. You do not need to be a member to take these classes, but members do receive discounted prices.
5 – Gymnastics at Kids Unlimited
Kids Unlimited begins their gymnastics program with Kangazoo, a program developed using the USA Gymnastics team curriculum. In this preschool program, children develop their hand-eye coordination and flexibility while using the bars, vault, beam, floor and trampoline. Their Baby Bears program is for children 18 months through three years with an adult. Tuition is $46 a month for four classes plus a yearly enrollment fee.
6 – Music at Kindermusik
In Kindermusik, children develop their music, cognitive and social skills through singing, moving, playing instruments and listening to stories. The program begins with the Foundations class for babies through 18 months and their caregiver.
Babies learn with their caregiver in a sensory-rich environment with songs, rhymes, baby-safe instruments and more. They build on these skills in each successive level. Caregivers continue to participate with their children through level two and for a portion of the class in levels three through five. These classes are offered in Grand Rapids, Jenison, Holland and Spring Lake. Cost varies by location and type of at-home materials provided.
7 – Goldfish Swim Lessons for Babies 4 months and Up with a Care Giver
- For babies and toddlers ages 4 – 35 months
- No prior swim lesson or aquatic experience required
- Gentle introduction to the water
- Basic swim and safety skills taught
- Great bonding experience for the parent and child
8 – Little Feet through Sprout and Blossom
Little Feet is a unique caregiver-child movement program for children ages 3 months to 3 years old. Includes Musical Instruments, Rhyming Exercises, Folk Dances (you don’t need to know how to dance to enjoy this class) Take home enriching activities for your baby and more.
9 – Baby buddies through Kent ISD
Baby Buddies is a group facilitated by a Parent Educator. It is a delightful setting for babies who are pre-walkers and their caregivers to engage in activities together. Developmental activities include circle time with songs and activities as well as a special topic related to development.
10 – Make Music at Joyful Sounds
Enjoy a rich musical journey as you sing, dance, play, learn, laugh and love at Joyful Sounds. With classes just for babies and others for kids up to age 8, everyone will find something they love. Plus Joyful Sounds offers a Generations class at a retirement home so you and your child can spread joy to the residents!
