Do Cold, Wet Days Have you Down?
West Michigan certainly has its share of cold, rainy and snowy days, doesn’t it?
Because of our often crazy weather patterns, seasoned parents always have a few indoor play options up their sleeve for those icky outside days when you are stuck inside and your kids are bouncing off the walls. It seems that no matter how many fun activities you can put together at home, cabin fever still sets in eventually.
Don’t let it get you down, though – greater Grand Rapids has fantastic indoor play options at every turn! So put on those rain boots (or snow boots or sandals) and get your energy out at one of the exciting venues below!
Indoor Play Centers Near You
Indoor play centers are like a Michigan-weather parent’s dream come true, aren’t they?
Stay dry and warm and let the kids loose to enjoy all kinds of fun activities!
West Michigan favorite destinations include jumping in the ball pits and racing down slides at Catch Air or getting serious Air at AirTime trampoline park. Play games, eat pizza, dance and more at Chuck E. Cheese’s or race the go-carts at Craig’s Cruisers.
Active Fun for the Whole Family
Kids are busy and need some serious action to burn off energy! Thankfully, there are plenty of places around town for them to do just that.
And the best part is – the kids can run around to their heart’s content and you can relax and know they are safe.
Try Grand Rapids Salvation Army Kroc Center for activities galore for all ages. Another young and old fun zone is Battle GR, home of epic laser tag battles.
Skating is a great way to keep active – visit Tarry Hall, Kentwood Fun Spot, Roller Fox Skating Center, or Jumpin’ Jupiter Skate and Fun Center for a day full of fun on skates and blades!
Kids can jump and do so much more at awesome places like AirTime Trampoline, Crazy Bounce, Sky Zone, Rebounderz, or For the Kidz Gymnastics and Trampoline.
My favorite wet weather activity? Swimming! It smells like summer and brings a smile to everyone’s face. Families love Goldfish Swim School, Salvation Army Kroc Center, Holland Community Aquatic Center, Wealthy Street Pool and Forest Hills Aquatic Center.
Play and Learn
You’ve gotta love when you can sneak in some learning with that play, right? The kids will be having so much fun they won’t even realize how happy we are that they are gaining some serious knowledge!
Visit Grand Rapids Art Museum to see and learn about some amazing art and have a blast doing it.
Hang out for the day at Grand Rapids Public Museum and learn about local history, animals, space and so much more. Get hands on while you learn about the world around you at Grand Rapids Children’s Museum.
Explore the natural world indoors, too! There are many places around town where kids can learn about animals, plants and all things nature while staying warm and dry. The big red barn at The Critter Barn is waiting on those rainy days, and the Wildlife Education Center at Blandford Nature Center has animal friends for you to meet.
Visit The Calvin College Ecosystem Preserve – the Bunker Interpretive Center is an indoor facility housing frogs and turtles, educational displays, a puppet show and more.
Great For Toddlers
Toddlers are adorable – but also a little bit infamous for getting some boo boos and being a bit clumsy, am I right? Indoor places that are padded and have toddler-sized fun are genuine lifesavers during those icky outside days!
The little ones can run and flop around all they want at Playworld, and you can be assured they will be having a ball in a safe, padded and cushioned space!
Visit Square Play Café for a unique experience – enjoy yummy coffee and relax while the kids play with fun toys in an indoor play space.
Great For Big Kids
Indoor Fun for Big Kids
Big kids need fun, too – and not just video game fun! Keep the big kids happy and active during those inside-only days with these awesome venues.

AMF Lincoln Lanes, AMF Eastbrook Lanes, Clique Lanes, Northland Lanes, Northway Lanes, Park Center Lanes, Rockford Lanes, and Wengers Bowling Center.
Bigger kids will love watching sports, playing games, bowling and more at Dave and Buster’s.
At Bam! you can play laser tag, pool, bowl, play arcade games, get on the high ropes course and more.
Craig’s Cruisers offers trampolines, go-karts, a ninja course, an arcade and endless fun for kids!
AJ’s Family Fun Center not only offers outdoor fun, but also some good indoor fun, like arcade games, as well!
Free Indoor Play Options
Many local places offer free indoor play options – McDonald’s, Chik-Fil-A, Burger King, Woodland Mall, and Rivertown Crossings Mall, to name a few. Please be sure to call ahead to specific locations to be sure they include a play area.
Also, don’t forget the libraries! Each one on this big list offers a different way to play and learn, all without spending a dime. How many will you check off?
